Cascade Chorus Christmas Show is a success
Date: 12/7/2009
On Sunday afternoon, December 6, the Cascade Community Christmas Chorus held their annual Christmas show performance at Sheldon High School. With a nearly sold-out auditorium, the audience enjoyed performances by the Cascade Community Christmas Chorus as well as a number of quartets. It`s About Time had their inaugural performance by singing `Lo How a Rose `E`er Blooming` and `I`ll Be Home for Christmas.` Social Insecurity brought laughter to the audience by singing their own rendition using the tune of `God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen` as well as `Noel`. After Five made also made one final appearance. Gary Raze shared `Twas The Night Before Christmas` and Norm Fox shared his talent as Ebeneezer Scrooge. Rounding out the afternoon were performances by the Sheldon High School Dublinairs as well as the Greater Eugene Sweet Adeline Chorus. Check out our calendar page for a list of when the show will appear on the local Eugene cable access channel.

Cascade Chorus was proud to be a part of this years opening ceremony for the Stand Down at the new Springfield armory. Thanks to all who were able to come and sing.
Special thanks to Stan Hunsdon for setting up and staying with the booth throughout the morning. Great positive publicity for the chorus.
Also thanks to Four over Forty for staying and singing to the folk working in the booths.
We received a very nice thank you and a request to return again next year.

David Neis
Date: 10/23/2008
It is with a very sad heart that I have to tell you this news. We lost a great friend, a very special man, and a wonderful tenor voice late last night.
David was a inspiration to all of us and he will be missed more than I could ever say!
Helen and the rest of the family send their love and thanks, to all of us in his chorus family.
Keep this wonderful family in your thoughts and prayers!

Great show at Florence
Date: 8/12/2007
Yes, it was a great Saturday night. The audience was responsive and appreciative. The chorus was great. We might need to steal the idea of dancing girls from Florence. I liked the idea myself.
It was great for Hugh and I to arrive at the auditorium and find the risers set and the stage ready. Thanks to Jerry Kegel for taking care of riser transport.
Well done all.
Memorial for Bruce Moore
Date: 6/30/2007
June 30, 2007 a number of people gathered in Bruce`s backyard to remember and say adieu.
We were asked if anyone wanted to say anything about Bruce. It is no surprise that everyone had the same basic thing to say. If you had a need, Bruce was there to help. Those words came from every chorus member who spoke, every friend and neighbor, everyone who worked with Bruce. Even his granddaughter with the nail in her tire (cool story).
I can assure you, those of us in the chorus do know he was always there when we needed him. Bruce was recently honored with our Barbershopper of the Year award.
We will miss him.
The chorus sang the Lord`s Prayer and the Irish Blessing. Thanks to all who were able to come out.
Bruce Moore
Date: 6/25/2007
On June 25, 2007 Bruce lost his fight against cancer. He was a valued member of the Cascade Chorus for more than 15 years.
He was always there to help, no matter what the task. The bass section and the chorus will miss this wonderful friend.
Farewell, Greg
Date: 6/14/2006
We were sorry to here that Greg Langford will soon be leaving our fair state. During a trip back to his old stomping grounds in New Jersey, a sweet job offer was made and accepted.
It is bittersweet for Cascade Chorus. We are happy that Greg received a great offer. We hate to lose his voice, his great face, and a guy that was just so easy to like.
Keep singing, Greg, and remember you are always a part of our chorus family. There will always be a chair for you at rehearsal.
We had cake and ice cream to send Greg off last night (June 13). Currently he believes his last rehearsal with us will be June 20.
Thanks, Greg, for 10 great years.
NEWEST KEGEL APPEARS
Date: 5/9/2006
Yes, on Friday Gabe and Melissa became the proud parents of Wesley Kegel. If I had my ears on correctly, the proud papa noted Wesley was 21 inches and 8 pounds 11 ounces.
Mom and son are doing great, according to Gabe. Just ask, he does have pictures. An early photo of Wes is still available at our Yahoo site.
Successful Valentines
Date: 2/17/2006
It was again a successful Valentines season. The reason it was successful--everyone helped. We again had over 200 paid Valentine performances. We alsodid many freebies as people sang for loved ones, their workplace, even spontaneously for the folk who said--I wish someone would sing to me.
Stupendous thank you`s to the rookies who ran this for the first time--Jim Chapman and Ron Paulson. Well done, guys.
Awards and Installation Banquet
Date: 1/7/2006
Friday, January 6, 59 members, spouses and friends met, remembered a great year, and installed our 2006 officers.
Presiding over the festivities was area counselor Bill Devereaux with an assist from newest area counselor Rick Fraga. Both are members of our chapter.
Coby presented several certificates and 4 Section Awards for 2005. Some folk were not present, so we will not list the recipients here, we will get them the awards Tuesday at chorus.
The Jerry Witherspoon Award--for service to the chorus working `behind the scenes` was presented to a gaggle this year--The newspaper gang. Many spend every day with newspapers in their trunk and garage, or hauling them in to be weighed and dumped. They are a critical part of our recent financial success.
The Directors Award-was presented by Coby to Gabe Caretto in absentia. Gabe has been a member of our chorus for 19 years and, while with us in mind, is absent in body. Gabe does all four voices in our learning tapes, and counsels Coby on various things musical.
The Presidents Award-was presented by Dorland to Walt Stoeffler. Walt keeps telling us to stop giving him awards. The problem is, he is so deserving. Walt is always there to set up (and clean up) the coffee every night, he procurs (by working) the Presbyterian church for use for board meetings and as home base for Singing Valentines. Walt is also an integral member of the newspaper gang, and a board member at large.
Barbershopper of the Year-Presented by Rick Fraga (chairman of the Past Presidents) to Chuck Shotola.
Chuck serves us as VP Public Relations and Assistant Treasurer, but his primary claim to fame is as Foundation Chair. Chuck is out there asking businesses and individuals to provide us funding for our efforts to keep music in the schools. He purchases music and teaching kits and makes sure these get to schools that can use them. He keeps his ears open and when he finds schools with a financial need, he makes sure we are part of the solution. In 2005 we purchased over $1500 in supplies and music and donated $2500 directly to school music programs.
No barbershop evening is complete without singing. Performing for us were Four over Fourty (they do look older than 40 to me!), 3/4 of After Five with Area Counselor Bill Deveraux `singing in` for missing Baritone Scotty Clark, and McKenzie Touring Company gave us two beautiful ballads.
Coby closed the evening directing the Irish Blessing.
Many thanks to Dorland Neale for arranging the convenient location and meal, to Rick Fraga for taking care of the awards, and to Bill Deveraux for serving as Master of Ceremonies and Installing Officer.
Now we go on to a bigger and better 2006.
Octet drives the herd through Creswell
Date: 8/21/2005
An octet of Cascade members (After Five plus Gary Raze, Bob Martindale, Hugh Turnbull, and Loren Corner) performed our cowboy set in Creswell as part of a cowboy poetry and music show.
The audience was enthusiastic. The guys did a great job. They split the set, saving the last song to be the show finale. I`m sure it was a challenge taking the stage after Sourdough Slim.
For those complaining about moving and singing, Slim does a song where he does a flat loop with a lariat, plays the accordion, dances and yodels (all at the same time).
I hope Coby doesn`t plan on adding any of that to our set.
Great job, guys. Thanks for supporting Creswell education.
Cattle Drive reaches Wal~mart
Date: 8/17/2005
Cascade Chorus moo-ved to the Wal~mart parking lot to perform Tuesday night. We were the lead in to Jana Jae and Hotwire (her trio). If you don`t remember Jana, check out your old tapes of Hee Haw and the girl with the blue violin.
It was a great show, we did well, and many of the group stayed to enjoy Jana.
We then retired to Papa`s Pizza for an extended afterglow and more singing. A great time was had by all.
Cowboys invade Florence
Date: 8/15/2005
Yup, pardner, we had a great time on the Florence show. Their third sellout in three years running the show. Kudos to Bob Armstrong and all the other guys from Florence.
The afterglow was packed. Coby and Marty Anderson were sitting on high chairs.
And be sure to ask Mr Ferguson why we didn`t have 42 guys on the risers.
Treasurer goofs! Ask for tickets again, please.
Date: 8/11/2005
In his haste to keep our customers happy, Don sent several e-mails requesting tickets off to Deena. They got there fine, but without the return address for the people asking for tickets. So Bob and Bob & Barbara - I lost your e-mail addresses. Send them again and I`ll do better this time.
Julie did it again (Coby helped)
Date: 8/6/2005
For those not in our e-mail group I`m adding this news from last week.
Jordan Passley Foster born 7:58 a.m. July 27th
8lbs - 4 oz 20 inches tall
Mom and baby doing fine. Pound papa doing ok too!
Coby `curly` Foster Director Cascade Chorus
Steinhauer Moves!
Date: 8/5/2005
Yes, Gary sold his place in Dexter, and is moving to a home in Cottage Grove (check with the moving crew, Dorland, Chuck Roller, Jim Ferguson, Gary JR, et al). The burning question is this: Why do we need kleenex in every room before we unload the trailer, Gwen? The new phone number is 541-942-5455. Watch for more new developments.
